Cedarbrook is a member of Second Wind Dreams (SWD), an international organization that fulfills dreams for seniors and works to change the perception of aging, one dream at a time. When a dream unfolds, the resident experiences a deeper sense of self-worth, connection and joy. A resident’s dream may be large or small, but it is his or her dream – and Cedarbrook volunteer team, in cooperation with Second Wind, aims to fulfill it. The effect is heartfelt by residents, creating a “Second Wind” for residents, families, volunteers and staff.
Tim McEllroy, a resident of Cedarbrook-Fountain Hill, loves motorcycles, pizza and cherry coke. On Tuesday, July 2nd, the Cedarbrook Dream Catchers and Cedarbrook-Fountain Hill held a Bike Night in Tim’s honor. Tim was thrilled to meet the members of the Catasauqua American Legion Riders and Latin American Motorcycle Association, who presented him with membership pins, tee shirt and cap. Tim will also be treated to a personal pizza and cherry coke once a month for the next six months compliments of the Cedarbrook Dream Catchers. Here is a photo of Tim posing with his new Biker Buddies!
The Second Wind program, run by the Second Wind volunteer committee, provides the special joys at Cedarbrook’s two locations. One sweet example: On February 14th, 2015, Fountain Hill resident Theresa Groeller’s chocolate dream came true. Theresa mentioned to a Cedarbrook employee that she wanted to own her own chocolate ‘factory’. Armed with a chocolate fountain and strawberries, marshmallows, chips, cake and cream cheese, TR ‘can do’ employee Nancy assisted Theresa and they set out to have some chocolate fun. Theresa was in heaven, chocolate heaven to be exact, as she spent her time displaying her sweet treats and enjoying them with others. An extra special surprise: Theresa is receiving a gift of chocolate once a month for the entire year.
